Before going straight into my shoot I wanted to have a practice shoot. My main problems were that I couldn’t use my actual model as she doesn’t live near me, I didn’t have all of my props, I only had my DSLR canon with a 50mm lens and I only had the lights in my house for lighting. As you can probably guess, the shoot didn’t go very well. However I did learn a lot about what I should do for my actual shoot. I tried a few birds eye view shots and although they were interesting, they didn’t really fit as a series. So for the real shoot I will be taking all the photos as eye level mid/long shots. The 50mm lens was way too close and didn’t give me a lot of flexibility. In the actual shoot I will use a 35mm film camera, however, I will have to use the 50mm lens on my DSLR as a back up but hopefully I won’t have to use those images. Lighting was the biggest struggle in this practice shoot. We shot in the evening and only had the lights in my house to work with which have a very orange/yellow tinge to them. For the real shoot I will book out an LED panel light to give more control over the lighting as you can change the colour and intensity of it. I will also shoot in the day time with the curtains open to create a natural soft lighting. Although I am not happy with the way the practice shoot images came out, I am happy I did it as now I have a clearer idea of what I want my images to look like and what I will have to do to achieve it.
